The Master Bedroom PLans

Ok. Here it is. My ultimate project. It was such a great idea in the beginning. Actually it's a GREAT idea. And when you see the pictures, you'll understand why.

Obviously, we need curtains. And the old oak furniture needs to be stained black. This is the BEFORE. Like WAAAAAAY before. When you see my plans I hope you'll see the future. See all the wires in the corner? You'll see in a few minutes what plans I have for that wireless router mess!

Obviously, the TV will be mounted on the wall. Can you picture the black furniture?

Before you absolutely LOSE it that the top of the dresser is messy, remember that I need more space? I have PLANS, people. BIIIIIG plans!

Again, the clothes. UGH!  But.... look at the blank canvas that is the wall!

That screaming sound you hear is my husband having apoplexy at me posting pictures of our HORRIBLE bedroom. Don't worry. He'll get over it eventually!  You know that moment in time called Spring, right when the weather gets warm enough to break out the t-shirts, but it's cold before 10 am and after 4 pm so you can't put your sweaters away? That's where I'm at right now. We need more storage ideas. Let's face it, we need a massive overhaul of the entire ROOM! Top to bottom. The problem I have is the time management and cost, but mainly the time management. My wonderful, fabulous, incredibly wonderful soldier/husband returns from Afghanistan within the month, so I need to get as much done as I can. (Or should I just get the bare bones done and let him help me finish? Hmmm..... how much do I want to spend time working on projects when he gets home?.....)

And then there are the End of Project PLANS! I want to create a "Travelling Theme" bedroom. If you know us, we LOVE to travel as much as we LOVE to make plans for travelling! Now nearly all of these pictures are from Pinterest (big surprise!) I have links to the original site whenever possible. Picture #1 is from a setup in a store for Ralph Lauren. They no longer sell the bedding, so there is no link to find it! I'm not going to get my chandelier. Hubby is fixated on his ceiling fan.  And there is NO pin on Pinterest about  chandeliers that can be made from a ceiling fan. I checked. *sigh*

I already have the cream colored walls, but I'm considering painting yellow. Just not sure about that yet. The chairs shown here would be nice, but impossible to find for less than $170. And as for slipcovers, I'm not sure I can handle that just yet. I'm looking for the bench. Still scoping things out...

This is just the bare bones. Like I said, the bedding and curtains are no longer for sale. So, I've had to improvise! I found this fabric at a site that sells tablecloth fabric by the bolt for $29.99. It's very thin, so I'll have to line it with inexpensive fabric. I can make the curtains, bedding, and a pillow cover for MUCH less than the $399 price tag for similar sets.  I don't plan on sewing a new comforter, just a duvet. That should save some time!

Now for the ceiling. I want to try this, but definitely need some help. I have some aviation maps in the garage that will do nicely. And as for the moulding around it, I'll need to call in the calvary!

Now for the wall map. Here's the general idea. Picture the map framed on the wall, but the words, "Let's Run Away" in vinyl lettering above the frame. I'm thinking a pretty large setup. I have some pretty big walls!

But I'll be using this $11 poster I got from a website. I'm trying to decide if I want to frame it under glass and put stickers on places we have been, lived, or plan to visit, or if I should just mount it on cork and put a frame around it and use pins to mark it.
World Map

These two screens are going in each corner to hide the wires and other stuff. I found these for $119 each, but now I wonder if I can find a picture to blow up and glue them onto closet doors? Hmmmm..... need to do some checking....

Ok, now for the nightstands. I've decided to use old suitcases. Neat idea, huh! I would LOVE to be able to stack them like the pictures, but they're hard to find and sometimes expensive when you do find them.  I found a lady who makes the vintage stands for $20 each. If I can just find two suitcases to begin with...

So what to do with the space above the headboard? And what will I do for furniture? We are not about to go out and buy a whole new bedroom set, so I'm going to stain the bed and dressers black. This vinyl wall decoration is only $37 but you can choose the size. This works great because I can take the measurements AFTER I put up the curtains!  One HUGE downside: getting that thing OFF the paper and onto the wall. I'll need to call in backup on this one!

So, the priority is this: stain the furniture, then the duvet cover, then the curtains. The map will take a little bit of time, but not alot. And this will be my solution for storage. It's an armoire I've been using in my sewing room. I'm sad to give it up, but I can always make my sewing room a new project area! I'll be staining this black to match everytheing else. I hope it comes out nice!

And the rug? Are you READY?

Painted compass rug

It's PAINTED!  Yup! This is MINE!

But WAIT! I have a few little projects! Like the framed dry erase board and the pillows on my project page! Check them out!

  3. Alex, I'm still looking for the light colored rug. I found a darker one, and I can use it if I HAVE to, but I'll scope out other Walmarts to see if I can find it!
